This article was published in Deep Times, a journal inspired by Joanna Macy’s work that encourages us to slow down, feel deeply, and act with awareness rooted in our connection to the Earth and all life. I wrote this piece in response to the journal’s call for submissions on the theme “Experiencing and Responding to the Great Unraveling.”

Drawing on my students’ slow looking practices in freshman writing courses, this paper illustrates how slow looking fosters mindfulness and cultivates Generation Z students’ capacity for learning and living, supporting both their academic success and personal well-being.
